Tiered Dishes: Stylish Storage and Display

May 11, 2010

While tiered dishes may have been designed to hold hors d’oeuvre, desserts and other food items, it’s easy to repurpose them for use around the house. While you can buy them new from a variety of  stores, I’ve picked up a few at local thrift stores for only a few dollars each. With a little cleaning and polishing they looked good as new and were ready to use around the house. My most recent purchase was this particularly girly dish. It took a good amount of cleaning and polishing but it turned out alright. I am not sure what I’m going to use it for yet, but I’m thinking storing fruit in the kitchen. Still a food use, but not quite as fancy as it was intended for, I’m sure.

Before cleaning it was super black and yucky.

All nice and clean.

I did find that tiered dishes are a great way to store jewelry. It keeps it organized but you still have it out so you can look at it which is great for pieces you really love.

I think that you could also use one to put a little moss garden in, store office supplies, or keep sewing stuff on hand.

I love tiered dishes! I especially like them for storing jewelry; that’s a great idea! Do you have any suggestions for hanging necklaces?

I have my necklaces hanging on this thing I got from Urban Outfitters. It wasn’t really cheap, but I love it so I don’t care. Earrings and other stuff fit on it too!

Awesome! They do have some cute ones on there. I’ve been looking for awhile, trying to find something to appropriate as a jewelry stand and no luck yet. I may have to go with an Urban Outfitter one. 🙂

Yeah, I looked for a long time to find one at a thrift store, but I never did see one I liked, so I just bought that one. Works well for what I need.
