Narwhal Pillow

September 1, 2010

I promised myself I’d get back to blogging at the start of this month and I’m trying to keep good on my word to myself. Work is kind of crazy at the moment so it’s been hard to keep up with that, let along making stuff and maintaining a social life. Nonetheless, I have managed to crank out a few projects in the past few weeks. This is a pillow I made for my sister. She requested a narwhal Christmas ornament, but why not have a narwhal you can enjoy year round?

I think it came out alright, though I feel like it still needs a little something. Not sure what that something is, but yeah, it needs it.

The construction is pretty simple, just an envelope closure with a pillow insert. I chose a blue seersucker because seersucker is just always cute.

In this detail you can see how the fabric is painted, then embroidered. I was experimenting. It seems to work better over smaller areas better than larger.

That is SO cute! I love the hand embroidery! I had messed around with freezer paper stenciling and did some onsies, but the embroidery just makes it totally cute! Maybe I will try a big 1 for my son’s 1st party coming up and do this on the edge!

Thank you! I need to make some onsies myself, as everyone I know seems to have had/is having a baby. : )
