Bookshelves for Baby

July 25, 2013

I have always loved to read, so it seemed like a no-brainer to foster that same love of books in our little one by making bookshelves a main feature in her room. We picked up some of the Ribba picture ledges from Ikea in both the short and long sizes to hold some of her books, frames, and toys. These things are really easy to install (just make sure you get some anchors that can hold a lot of weight in case baby decides to hang on to them. I found some at Home Depot that claimed to hold 60 pounds, so hopefully the shelves won’t be ripped from the wall).

You might notice that there’s a bit of a theme in the books. I just can’t help myself when it comes to woodsy stuff. So, she has a selection of books on foxes, owls, and woodland creatures, among a few other classics.

We plan on putting a rocker in front of this area to use it as sort of a reading before bedtime zone. Later on, we may take out the rocker and give her some beanbags or pillows that she can use to make it her own tiny-person sized space for books.
